4-Way Flashers w/ Modified Front Turn signals.

I wanted to use an inexpensive method of incorporating 4-way flashers in the Nomad. Luckily, this isn't a new concept so information regarding this implementation already exists in various forms on the Internet.  Since I have the Silver Bullet MR16 versions on my bike as run/turn signals I wanted to make sure there was a document regarding hooking up 4-way flashers to them. They are a bit different than the stock signals since they do not use a dual filament  1157 bulb as the MR16 in a single filament bulb requiring Magic Blinkers to function as a run/turn device. This is my current configuration.

After thinking about it, even thought the Able-2 LED heads, flasher and switch setup I installed are excellent products and produce penetrating amber light, I really don't like the looks of them on the bike. Perhaps because they are rectangular and the lines of the bike are either circular or curved. The ones on the back of the bike, under the Wompus rack, don't look too bad but the ones dangling of the engine guards, which were my enhanced turn signals, get to me. So, off to EBAY with them. Less wire, fewer components, less chance for failure...

For the stock turn signal implementation of the 4-way flasher,  please go here gadget/flashers

This is valid for my implementation as well. I will go in through the headlight housing and the relay will reside behind the front chrome panel next to the shock.

When using the Magic Blinkers, you have to make the splices of the Green and Grey wires on the input side. These two wires are connected to the white wires on the Magic Blinkers.

The flasher unit used is from Pepboys, $8 and is a 2 pin, 12V flasher.  Use a tie wrap and a adheasive backed tie anchor to strap it down to something.

Once assembled, the relay is hidden behind the triple tree...

The Custom LED "Magic Blinker" is designed to allow single filament light bulbs (or single intensity LED assemblies) to function as both running lights AND blinkers - at full brightness!  Simply connect your single filament bulb or LED as described in our instructions, and your indicator bulbs/LEDs will now stay on constantly as running lights, and blink when you engage the blinkers! Note: the indicator will turn off for the duration of the blinker pulse - this is how the blinking is achieved. The relays are mounted in the headlight bucket and tie wrapped to the headlight bucket and anchored with adhesive tie wrap anchors.

This is a handle bar switch I found at www.hotgrips.com for$20. I used a DPDT 6A@125V switch from Radio Shack and installed that into the housing

The housing can accommodate both a 7/8" or 1" handlebar. The housing comes complete with,

two bushings to allow it to function on 7/8" handlebars,
two stainless steel 4-40 thd. nuts,
two stainless steel 4-40 thd. x 9/16" allen screws,
3/32" allen wrench.

This is the functional block diagram the the system for bikes using single filament bulbs like MR11, as found in the Small Silver Bullets or the MR16 as found in the Large Silver Bullets.

As with the stock turn signals, the single elements are also bound by this rule... so don't forget, when the flashers are on, the turn signals will not function.
