Nomad 1600 Stock Seat Rework
The stock seat on the 1600 Nomad is the worst seat I have ever ridden on. It would appear the previous years of Nomad seat were pretty comfortable. After an hour of riding, on the 1600 stock seat, the feeling of my "man parts" being pushed back inside my body was a bit over whelming. The curve of the seat which they designed to follow the curves of the bike doesn't follow my body parts. Anyway, I bought the Mustang seat which is a definite improvement but I find a bit hard and is good for about 4 hours for me, the one with no butt. So I decided to take my stock seat to an upholsterer and see what they could do with it. No loss right? If they mess it up at least I could say I tried and I still have my Mustang seat. Well much to my surprise, they did an excellent job. It raised me up perhaps an inch and a half and totally changed the feel of the bike. The bike feels more responsive because I am up higher and the seat rolls off on the side instead of the angular drop off around the edges of the Mustang seat. So they charged me $200 to redo the padding and recover in leather. I sold my Mustang seat. So save yourself $250 and have your seat reworked and skip the Mustang seat. Look at the difference in seat angles between my seat and the stock 2006 shown below. Big difference.
