Colortune Kit PN#4171
Visual Based Fuel/Air Mixture Tuning
I bought mine off EBAY, out of the UK. Make sure you only buy the PN#4171. The kit is complete so nothing else is needed. It's easy to install, use and remove. I installed mine in the plug hole on the front right of the bike if you are sitting on it. The cylinder head heat fins are shorter up there so I didn't need anything other than my fingers and the supplied plastic hand held plug socket to get the Colortune plug in place. I also discovered that I had been running way too rich with my TFI unit settings.
Here is what I found.
TEST Setup:
Colortune plug
installed, K&N filter for the stock filter replacement. Not a Caddmann or Coyote
Kit. V&H Baggers installed.
The settings ended up being 1:30 - 1:00 - 1:00 - 9:00. (I was set at
3:00-2:30-1:30-9:00 when I started) Not what you thought was ought to be? Yeah
me either.
Now if all I do is add one of the 2"x9" K&N air filters, block the Reed Valve
circuit and leave the Cold Start Cellinoids installed the settings are;
2:30 - 1:30 - 1:00 - 9:00.
Now this surprised the toast out of me. I expected to be at 3:30/3:00/1:30/9:00
but NO, not the case. I have been running way to rich. Gee no wonder the girl at
the market down the street said, "you smell like gas", when I had the K&N 9"
filter on like the Caddmann setup. TOO RICH!!!.
Now that being said, I expect my MPG to come back up a good bit because I will keep my tires properly
inflated, I will stay out of the throttle, even though I too like acceleration,
I will cruise more and scoot less, I will remember with my SpeedoHealer unit
installed, I am traveling now 10% faster than I was last May when I was taking
MPG readings (stock speedo was 10% off on the slow side), I will also remember
my new fairing is 4" taller and 2" wider than the stock fairing and I will
remember that windy days knock down MPG also.
As a closing observation, yes that damn little plug gets hot, so when your removing it, be warned. I will probably play around with it a little more when I have more time, if I discover something amazing, I'll update the page. I would like to eventually go to the dyno, Gadget's dyno review is "under street load" and mine was stationary in the garage.
