Tach mount
This mount is a much better design than the cheesy mount that comes
direct from Drag Specialties.
These folks will sell you the mount and a tach that does not have the Drag
Specialties logo under the glass. Which looks a heck of a lot better. They have
two arm lengths and I bought the longer (when I had my VT1100C) but on
the Nomad It didn't look right way back, so I would go with the SHORT basic
handlebar mount for 1" diameter bars.
Mount only part# TMSAM
You can get the longer one and if it doesn't float your boat, you can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a shorter bolt than the one that comes with the picture on the left up above. It's a hex-wrench headed type and you can see the round portion of it above.
They also sell
the "Logo-less Face" version too, I have a white plain faced one. It does not
say Drag Specialties on it.

THE TACH WIRING SET-UP
On the 2005, I did not have to take the tank off......yeeeeeaaah!!!
The tach itself has four wires:
RED and BLUE for powering the tach’s electronics, and tach light. Both wires can be twisted together and connected to one positive current source);
A BLACK wire that goes to ground,
A GREEN wire that attaches to one ignition coil to pick-up firing signals.
On the bike, either coil can be used since a double-fire ignition system, similar to what Harley’s uses is deployed. This means a spark is fired in BOTH cylinders each time either cylinder is at/near Top Dead Center (TDC). So it makes no difference which coil the tach’s GREEN wire is attached to. The tach is designed to sense every ignition firing. Front cylinder coil #1 - black (BK) wire OR Rear cylinder coil #2 - black/green (BK/G) wire, the NEGATIVE wires. Connect the GREEN wire to either coil’s negative spade connector.
NOTE: If you solder the wire close to the coil, use no more heat than is necessary or longer than necessary as you can burn the coil and you will end up with a horrible misfiring engine.
