Adding a higher brake light is always a good thing to do for your own safety. The closer you can get it to the eye level of a car driver behind you, the better. And if you can make it flash in some sort of attention grabbing cadence, mucho better. These days that's pretty easy to do. With devices like the Signal Dynamics XP Backoff modular and a Radiantz Red Neonz LED strip.

The Radiantz description ....1' Flexible Red LED Array KIT(1MMR1FTKT) w /1mm Spacing, Includes 1' Ft. Red LED Array, 1.5 FT Red Tubing/w Adhesive, 8 Red Endcaps, 3' 26 GA Silver Stranded Teflon wire, Single Element (Must buy Separate Dual Element to make Run/Brake), *Customer can make up to 4 LED arrays* 100 LEDs/FT, Can cut every 0.6", Item: 4000-11 from http://www.customdynamics.com/flex_led_array.htm

The neat thing about these tubes is that they already have a full length piece of 3M Automotive Trim Tape on the back side of them, so you just peal and stick them to the desired location. It should also be mentioned that these are flexible and can bent backwards to form a circle if you are so inclined. They do not bend forward or side to side. I used the clear tube. You have to ask for a clear tube.

The Signal Dynamics XP Backoff modulator offers different 2 modes of operation. Click this to read about it. The control unit itself is under the passenger seat as there is amble room to hold the module.
What I did was tap into the brake line line and add this circuit separate from the stock brake light. I did this so that way there is a light source on the bike which is not in the normal run mode with the stock brake light. Therefore when you hit the brakes, a previously non-lit surface, jumps to life drawing even further attention to a following vehicle. Click on the picture below for a cheap drawing of the circuit.

Able-2 makes numerous Public Safety alerting LED packages. The slim-line Sho-Me series was employed here as an additional brake light. It is mounted via 3M Trim tape to the reflector which is above the license plate. A hole was drilled through the plastic mud guard and then though the top of the mud fender which allows the wire to enter into the same compartment which the stock tail light plug occupies. The brake light and ground were tapped into behind the stock bulbs on those stock plugs.

I replaced the Able-2 bar with a Whellen TIR3 head. It's smaller but packs more of a punch.
