Well you guessed it, You get
either Bridgestones or Dunlops D205 or D220 from the factory on a new bike.
Honda's recommendation differs with 42 psi in the front
and 42 psi in the rear.
The manufacturers
recommend 36 psi in the front and 42 psi in the back.
But the word on the street is
that Bridestone is making a really solid all-round tire.........

Avon StormAV55 120/70R-18 &
Avon Storm AV56 170/60R-17
The
Storm ST is the first tire to include Avon’s new "Reactive Footprint"
technology. This technology marries Avon’s unique variable belt density carcass
with Lifetime Profile Engineering to produce a footprint which changes size and
shape, depending on the bike’s lean angle, for the full life of the tire. The
result is a contact patch that grows as the bike leans, giving more grip in
corners while minimizing wear rates when traveling in a straight line. This
technological breakthrough could eliminate the need to use dual compounds and
would help solve the uneven wear problems associated with them.
These
tires seem to be the favorite of the aggressive peg draggers club. Appear to be
excellent in the corners and adverse weather conditions. Tread life to me was
equal to the Bridgestones.
Michelin -
Pilot Road 2 120/70ZR-18 &
170/60ZR-17
The ideal balance Independent tests confirm the Pilot Road
2 offers better wet grip and longer tread life than any of its competitors. How
did Michelin incorporate these two contradictory traits in one tyre? MotoGP-derived
2CT technology makes it possible, using two distinct rubber compounds to achieve
what was once thought impossible.
Compared with the original PR's, the PR 2's
are much better with reports of less noise, lighter handling, more stable
when leaned over and as good if not better in the rain. one rider reported,
"..... that my issue with the ST "dancing" around in dirty air has just about
disappeared with the PR 2's." Most folks seem to like them and rebuy.
Appears to be an excellent all round tire with long life. |

Bridgestone BT020F - currently installed
BT020F Front
Tire
120/70ZR18 #146438
BT020F Rear
Tire 170/60ZR17#146472
Description: Sport Touring
Radial designed for touring oriented sport riders offering solid performance and
high mileage. Silica-enriched compound offers exceptional level of grip on both
wet and dry surfaces. Mono-spiral belt construction offers high speed stability
and improved shock absorption. Comprehensive Tire Design Method provides
excellent handling and cornering performance. W-rated for speeds up to 168 mph.
Bridgestone 020
tires are high mileage for highway travel, but wear quickly under more twisty
conditions. Faster wear in the summer months has been noted. Sounds like a good
all round tire. Others think it is a well rounded tire.
These tires are the standard one listed in
most catalogs at this point in time.
After a weekend of riding on the
Bridgestones, I can say right off the bat they are much quieter as well as
smoother riding. In Tennessee we have beautiful and moderately twisty
roads which require a good all around tire compound. I ride on the conservative
side. Which means I cruise and occasionally get " a little sporty". There are
many choices out there as well as many different riding styles. I too, as others
as well, like to get more than 10k miles out of a set of tires. I have heard
individuals getting up to 15k miles out of their Bridgestone tires, so I will
keep my fingers crossed.

Metzeler ME-Z4 Front Tire
Developed to provide a new level
of performance and increased mileage for the next generation of sport/sport
touring bikes. ME-Z4 front is the first 0 degree steel radial front, which
increases stability and reduces operating temperatures. 0 degree steel belt
reduces tire deformation under hard braking, reducing kickback. Lower operating
temperature allows use of stickier compounds without sacrificing mileage. Only
one steel belt is needed, producing a lighter tire and allowing deeper tread for
even longer life without adding weight. Every street tire made in Metzeler's
German factory is inflated, spin-balanced and personally inspected.
Suggested parings are with the
Metzeler ME-880 rear or the Bridgestone BT020. The Z4 is said to be a good
performer, but only on the front as the rear tire goes away quickly.

Metzeler Z6 Roadtec Tires
Excellent wet performance with
solid contact feeling for outstanding traction and easy handling
characteristics. "Fine Carbon Matrix" compound: best dry grip in the segment,
engineered to exploit the performance offered by modern bikes, but still
delivering a long mileage. Specifically developed contour for
confidence-inspiring overall riding feeling friendly feedback on all bikes. Ride
at your best and simply at ease with high safety margins and great comfort.
Suggested parings are with the
Metzeler ME-880 rear or the Bridgestone BT020. The Z6 is said to be a good
performer, but only on the front as the rear tire goes away quickly.

Metzeler ME-880 Rear Tire
Machine-specific carcass construction for exceptional riding comfort and
stability at all speeds, even under heavy load. Tread pattern design with offset
central groove's alignment providing uniform tread wear, very high mileage for
never-ending riding fun. Very smooth handling and highest stability for easy
riding in all conditions, at full speed on straight but not as sticky as some on
twisty mountain roads.

Dunlop RoadSmart 120/70ZR18 &
Dunlop RoadSmart 120/70ZR18 (Replaced the D220)
For the
Roadsmart, Dunlop created a new radial carcass construction process called
Flex Steel-Joint Less Belt (FS-JLB) that's used in the making of the front
and rear - an apparent first for Dunlop production tires. In simple terms, a
zero-degree joint-less steel belt makes up the layer underneath and two
plies of rayon - used for its excellent damping qualities - are laid at
opposing angles just below. This type of construction, says Dunlop,
minimizes distortion of the carcass
Riders report excellent
handling in all conditions. Tire life is at least comparable to the
Bridestones if not slightly better.
