I
really like the Whelen hardware. It is
bullet proof, bright and long lasting and
the LINZ6 is no different. This
particular item is fairly amazing,
considering its size, to be so bright and
have so many patterns built in to a single
small unit. They smoke the TIR series in my
opinion hands down. Any TIR3 mount or flange
will fit the LINZ6 as it shares the same
footprint. They are more expensive than the
TIR3s these days but you get a brighter head
and one with a higher viewing angle for on
coming traffic ahead and to the sides. I
bought 3 of the amber and installed on on
the rear and 2 on the front of my bike. The
swivel mount bracket on the rear has a frame
that will flex just enough so that with a
strip of 3M Double Sided Tape, it stays on
securely under the ledge on the rear of the
bike. Wiring for this one runs to the right,
as you can see and disappears under the seat
with a run of 4 conductor wire to join with
its team mates in the front area of the
bike. |

I tried a couple of
mounting locations on the bike to include,
mounting with the swivel mount brackets to
the tops of the mirrors housings. This
required drilling, which I did carefully and
slowly but for some unknown reason to me,
the housing both cracked. (Quick $150..
ouch) So I wasn't going to do that twice.
The most visible location is right behind
the windshield, on the top side of the dash
where you have 2 push pins which help hold
the top cowl to the instrument plastic.
Adding 2 speed nuts and a couple of screws
and not using the push pins gives you a mini
mounting area you can use if you have a mini
shelf or something along those lines. While
it was the most visible location, it just
said to me, " hey look something mounted
cheaply, steal me". So I took them off. They
just didn't look right to me. To ugly to
even take a picture of. |

I went with a set of
the BLM mounts for an ST1300 which I was
going to get for the Trail Tech MR16 lights
I wanted to mount on the front of the bike.
The TT/MR16 had been mounted with the Turbocity
- Under the Mirror Mounts. The bracket for
the LINz6 is the one used to deploy a TIR3,
on a Harley under the fog light. So look
under the TIR3 options on the Whelen site
and you'll find it. The 4 wires from
the light head run back into the mirror
cover and then back through the cowling,
connects to the other LINZ6 on the other
side then they connect to the rear LINZ6.
I ended up removing both sets of lights when
I converted the main headlights to HID. I
just didn't need the TrailTechs anymore.
(HID rocks)
I ended up
mounting them in the front cowling with some
trusty 3M double sided trim tape. A little
more covert in nature but still effective.
The front 2 LINZ6 are synced but not with
the lower TIR3s. The LINZ6 on the rear isn't
synced with anything and is just a basic
pattern. I had 2 LINZ6 on the rear synced
but took them off as I feared that I would
blind other riders behind me during
PGR escorts especially during lower light
conditions.
The +12V and
Pattern Advance are controlled via the 3
switches on the assembly on top of the brake
fluid housing. The switch on the far
left controls Pattern Advance for the 2 TIR3
units I have, on a separate circuit running
steady state, acting as running lights on
the side of the front fender. If I want
something other than steady state, "flick".
